On this day in 1997, the Brooklyn group Company Flow released their full-length album Funcrusher Plus on Rawkus. The album was self-produced by the three-man crew. Funcrusher Plus featured the singles: "8 Steps to Perfection;" "Population Control;" and "Blind," which reached #44 on the Dance charts. The two tracks; "The Fire in Which You Burn," and "Lune TNS" were later featured on the 1997 Rawkus compilation Soundbombing.

The debut was produced by Dizzee Rascal along with Chubby Dread, Moulders, Mr. Cage, Taz, and Vanguard. Guest artists featured on the set included Wiley, God's Gift, and Taz. Boy in da Corner spawned the singles: "I Luv U," which was the debut single and reached #29 on the UK Singles chart; "Fix Up, Look Sharp," which peaked at #17 on the UK Singles chart; and "Jus' a Rascal," which reached #30 on the UK Singles chart and #8 on the UK R&B chart. On this day in Hip-Hop history, the New York City blackout of 1977 birthed a generation of new DJs.
On this day in 1977, New York City experienced a major blackout which resulted in widespread looting and arson in many of the poorer neighborhoods around the city. Hip-hop pioneers DJ Kool Herc and Grandmaster Caz both attributed the rise of an entire generation of DJs and hip-hop artists due to the mass looting of equipment like turntables, mixers, and speakers.
