On this day in 1997, Common released his third studio album One Day It'll All Make Sense on Relativity. The album was mostly produced by No I.D. Some guests featured on the album included Cee-Lo Green, De La Soul, and Canibus. One Day It'll All Make Sense spawned a few singles: "Retrospect for Life," which featured Lauryn Hill; "Reminding Me (of Self)," which featured Chantay Savage and reached #9 on the Rap chart; and "All Night Long," which featured Erykah Badu and was produced by the Roots. The third set from the Chicago rapper reached #12 on the R&B chart and #62 on the Billboard 200.

On this day in 1980, Kurtis Blow released his self-titled debut album on Mercury. Blow's debut album was the first rap record to be released on a major label. It was the first hip-hop record to be certified gold and sold close to 700,000 copies in 1980. Kurtis Blow featured Blow's second hit single "The Breaks," which would be sampled numerous times in future hip-hop joints. The final track on the album, "Takin' Care of Business," was a hip-hop rendition of Bachman-Turner Overdrive's 1973 hit and was the first attempt at merging rock 'n' roll with rap, six years prior to the release of Run-D.M.C.'s "Walk This Way."

On this day in 1999, the two East Coast rappers Method Man & Redman released their first full-length album collaboration Blackout! on Def Jam. The album included production from Redman, Erick Sermon, RZA, and Mathematics. Guests on the set included LL Cool J, Ja Rule, and Ghostface Killah. Blackout! debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200. It would be certified platinum within months after its release. It spawned three hit singles: "Tear It Off," "Y.O.U.," and "Da Rockwilder," all of which were top twenty hits on the Rap chart. The duo would release a sequel album, 10 years later, titled The Blackout! 2.
