On this day in Hip-Hop history, the Wu-Tang Clan released the single "C.R.E.A.M."

On this day in 1994, the Wu-Tang Clan released the hit single "C.R.E.A.M." on Loud.  An acronym for "Cash Rules Everything Around Me," the single was from the Wu's debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).  It was produced by RZA and contained a sample from The Charmel's 1967 song "As Long As I've Got You."  Method Man, Raekwon, and Inspectah Deck were featured on the single.

"C.R.E.A.M." reached #60 on the Billboard Hot 100.  It peaked at #32 on the R&B chart.  It is one of the Wu's highest-charting singles to date.  It was certified gold by the RIAA.

On this day in Hip-Hop history, Eazy-E posthumously released Str8 off tha Steetz...

On this day in 1996, Ruthless Records released the posthumous album from Eazy-E, Str8 off tha Streetz of Muthaphukkin Compton.  The album was released ten months after his death.  It featured production from DJ Yella, Bobby "Bobcat" Ervin, Naughty by Nature, Roger Troutman, and Eazy-E.  Guest artists featured on the album included MC Res, Dresta, and B.G. Knocc Out.

Str8 off tha Streetz of Muthaphukkin Compton spawned the two singles "Tha Muthaphukkin' Real," which just missed the top forty on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Rap chart; and "Just tah Let U Know," which peaked at #45 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on the Rap chart.  The album reached #3 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the R&B chart.  The album was certified gold by the RIAA.

On this day in 2000, Dr. Dre released the second single off his album 2001, "Forgot About Dre" on Aftermath.  The single was produced by Mel-Man and Dr. Dre.  Eminem was featured as a guest artist on the single.

"Forgot About Dre" reached #25 on the Billboard Hot 100.  It reached #14 on the R&B chart.  The single was nominated and won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2001 Grammy Awards.

On this day in 1997, the Bronx duo Camp Lo released their debut studio album Uptown Saturday Night on Profile.  The album was executive produced by Ill Will Fulton and featured production from Ski and Trugoy the Dove.  Guest artists featured on the album included Trugoy the Dove, Butterfly, Jungle Brown, Karachi R.A.W. and Bones.

Uptown Saturday Night featured the lead single "Luchini AKA This Is It," which reached #50 on the BillboardHot 100 and peaked at #5 on the Rap chart.  The album peaked at #27 on the Billboard 200.  It reached #5 on the R&B chart.

On this day in 1988, LL Cool J released the single "Going Back to Cali" on Def Jam.  The hit single was produced and cowritten by Rick Rubin for the soundtrack to the 20th Century Fox motion picture Less Than Zero.

​"Going Back to Cali" also appeared on LL's third album Walking With a Panther, released on Def Jam in 1989.  The single peaked at #31 on the Billboard 200.  It reached #12 on the R&B chart.  It was certified gold by the RIAA.

On this day in 1995, Too $hort released his ninth album Cocktails on Jive.  The album featured production by Ant Banks, LA Dre, Shorty B, Spearhead X, B. Turner, the Dangerous Crew, and Too $hort.  Guest artists featured on the album included Old School Freddy B, Father Dom, MC Breed, Baby D, Malik and Jamal from Illegal, and 2Pac.

Cocktails was Too $hort's sixth album on Jive.  It debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200.  It reached #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart.  The album sold 101,00 copies its first week.  It was certified platinum by the RIAA in January 1997.

On this day in 1989, Tone-Loc released his debut studio album Loc-ed After Dark on Delicious Vinyl.  The album featured production from Matt Dike, Michael Ross, and The Dust Brothers.  

Loc-ed After Dark spawned the smash hit singles "Wild Thing," which reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100; "Funky Cold Medina," which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100; and "I Got It Goin' On," which reached #18 on the Hot Rap Singles chart.  The album reached #1 on the Billboard 200.  It was certified double platinum by the RIAA in May, 1989.
