On this day in 1986, Whodini released their third album Back in Black on Jive. The album was recorded in London and produced by Larry Smith. The group's DJ, Grandmaster Dee, made his vocal debut on the set. Back in Black spawned the classic joints "Fugitive" and "Last Night (I Had a Long Talk with Myself)" and the singles "One Love," which reached #10 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart; "Growing Up," which peaked at #58 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart; and "Funky Beat," which reached #19 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The album peaked at #35 on the Billboard 200 and reached #4 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It was certified gold by the RIAA in June, 1986.

It would help define the New York hardcore sound that is still influential today. Guest artists featured on the set included Q-Tip, Big Noyd, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan, and Nas. The Infamous spawned the hit singles "Shook Ones Pt.
