On this day in 1992, the Beastie Boys released their third studio album Check Your Head on Capitol Records. The album was produced by the boys and Mario Caldato, Jr. The third set used less samples and featured instrumental contributions from the group with Ad-Rock on lead guitar, MCA on bass guitar, and Mike D on drums. Check Your Head spawned the singles "Pass the Mic," which was the lead single off the set; "So What'cha Want," which reached #93 on the Billboard Hot 100; "Jimmy James," Gratitude," and "Professor Booty." The album reached #10 on the Billboard 200. It peaked at #37 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The album was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA, July, 1998.

On this day in 2002, Nelly released his hit single "Hot in Herre" on Universal. The track was produced by the Neptunes and was the second single off of Nelly's second studio album Nellyville. The single featured samples from Neil Young, Nancy Sinatra, and Chuck Brown. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained there for seven weeks during the summer of 2002. It earned Nelly the honors of winning the first-ever Grammy award for best male rap solo performance.

On this day in 2016, Mass Appeal posthumously released J Dilla's The Diary. The album was originally recorded between 2001 and 2002 and was Dilla's last planned release before his untimely passing in 2006 from a blood disease. It was originally titled Pay Jay and featured the producer's vocals along with his productions. Other artists featured on the album included Snoop Dogg, Kokane, and Bilal. The Diary peaked at #5 on the Rap chart. It reached #6 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
