On this day in Hip-Hop history, Tha Alkaholiks released their second album Coast II Coast.

On this day in 1995, hip-hop trio Tha Alkaholicks released their sophomore album Coast II Coast on Loud.  The album was produced by Diamond D, E-Swift, Madlib, and Tha Liks.  Notable guest artists featured on the album included Declaime, King Tee, Lootpack, Xzibit, and Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest.

Coast II Coast spawned the hit singles "The Next Level," which reached #43 on the Rap chart; and "DAAAM!," which peaked at #20 on the Rap chart.  The album reached #50 on the Billboard 200.  It peaked at #12 on the R&B chart.

On this day in Hip-Hop history, Jay Dee aka J Dilla released his debut studio album Welcome 2 Detroit.

On this day in 2001, Jay Dee aka J Dilla released his debut studio album Welcome 2 Detroit on BBE.  Dilla produced the entire album except for the track "The Clapper," which was co-produced by Karriem Riggins.  

The album featured local guest artists like Dwele, Blu, Elzhi, Frank-N-Dank, Beej, Hodge Podge and Lacks, and Phat Kat.  

​Welcome 2 Detroit spawned the single "Pause."  An instrumental version of the album would be released in August, 2005.

On this day in Hip-Hop history, LL Cool J released his hit single "Mama Said Knock You Out."

On this day in 1991, LL Cool J released his hit single "Mama Said Knock You Out" from his album of the same name on Def Jam.  The single was produced by Marley Marl and contained samples from James Brown, Chicago Gangsters, and Sly & the Family Stone and many others.

"Mama Said Knock You Out" reached #1 on the Rap singles chart.  It peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #12 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.  The single won the Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance.  It was certified gold by the RIAA.  It's also included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll" list.

On this day in Hip-Hop history, the Migos released their mixtape No Label 2.

On this day in 2014, the Migos released their mixtape No Label 2 on Quality Control.  The album featured production from Metro Boomin, Zaytoven, Murda Beatz, TM88, and more.  The mixtape featured verses from guest artists Meek Mill, Rich Homie Quan, and Machine Gun Kelly.

No Label 2 featured the Stackboy Twaun produced single "Fight Night," which reached #17 on the Rap chart.  The mixtape would later be remastered and rereleased as a proper studio album in June 2014.  The rereleased album spawned a new single "New Atlanta," which featured Jermaine Dupri, Young Thug, and Rich Homie Quan.

On this day in Hip-Hop history, Lauryn Hill won the Grammy for album of the year.

On this day in 1999, Lauryn Hill won the Grammy for Album of the Year for her debut solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.  Hill's award was the first-ever hip-hop album to win the Grammy for album of the year.  Ms. Hill earned a record-breaking total of ten Grammy nominations and won five.  At the time, her five Grammy wins set a record for the most Grammys won in one year by a female artist.  Hill also won for best new artist, best female R&B vocal performance, best R&B song, and best R&B album.  She performed her song "To Zion" along with Carlos Santana during the broadcast.

On this day in Hip-Hop history, Eminem released his major label debut album The Slim Shady LP.

On this day in 1999, Eminem released his second album and major label debut The Slim Shady LP on Interscope.  The album was produced by the Bass Brothers, Dr. Dre, and Eminem.  Guest artists featured on the set included Dina Rae, Royce da 5'9", and Dr. Dre.

The Slim Shady LP spawned several singles which included "My Name Is," which reached #36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy for best rap solo performance; "Guilty Conscience," which reached #56 on the R&B chart and won a Grammy for best rap performance by a duo or group; and "Just Don't Give A Fuck," which peaked at #62 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.  

The album debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200.  It won a Grammy for rap album of the year.  It was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA.

On this day in 1990, the four-man crew (Cold 187um, Go Mack, KMG the Illustrator, and DJ Total K-Oss) from Pomona, California, Above the Law released their debut album Livin' Like Hustlers on Ruthless.  The album was produced by the group, Dr. Dre, Laylaw, and was executively produced by Eazy E.

Livin' Like Hustlers spawned the singles "Untouchable," which reached #1 on the Hot Rap Singles chart and "Murder Rap," which also peaked at #1 on the Hot Rap chart.  N.W.A. were featured on the joint "The Last Song."  The album reached #75 on the Billboard 200.  It peaked at #14 on the R&B/HipHop chart.

2005 - 
Cormega released his fourth album The Testament on his own Legal Hustle Records.

2015 - Common and John Legend won an Oscar for best original song for their song "Glory."
