Largely considered one of the first socially conscious hip-hop songs ever written, Rolling Stones' magazine in 2012 voted Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" the number one greatest hip-hop song of all time.
"The Message" cleverly combined elements from R&B, disco, funk, and hip-hop.
The song would eventually reach #4 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Billboard chart and become the title track for that October's album.  It would influence and inspire many artists to come and would also find itself sampled numerous times.  Most notably on Puff Daddy's first single "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" which began as a #1 Billboard hit.
The group would become the first rap group inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
