THIS DAY IN HIP-HOP...MOBB DEEP - THE INFAMOUS

On this day in Hip-Hop history, Mobb Deep released their sophomore album The Infamous.

On this day in 1995, Mobb Deep released their hit sophomore album The Infamous on Loud.  The album was produced by the group as well as by The Abstract (aka Q-Tip), Schott Free, and Matt Life.  It would help define the New York hardcore sound that is still influential today.  Guest artists featured on the set included Q-Tip, Big Noyd, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan, and Nas.

The Infamous spawned the hit singles "Shook Ones Pt. II," which was the lead single off the album; "Survival of the Fittest," which reached #69 on the Billboard Hot 100; "Temperature's Rising," which was the third single off the album and contained a sample from Patrice Rushen; and "Give Up the Goods (Just Step)," which was the final single off the set and featured a sample from Esther Phillip's "That's Alright With Me."  The sophomore album peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200.  It reached #3 on the R&B chart.
