On this day in 1995, Mobb Deep released their hit sophomore album The Infamous on Loud. The album was produced by the group as well as by The Abstract (aka Q-Tip), Schott Free, and Matt Life. It would help define the New York hardcore sound that is still influential today. Guest artists featured on the set included Q-Tip, Big Noyd, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan, and Nas. The Infamous spawned the hit singles "Shook Ones Pt. II," which was the lead single off the album; "Survival of the Fittest," which reached #69 on the Billboard Hot 100; "Temperature's Rising," which was the third single off the album and contained a sample from Patrice Rushen; and "Give Up the Goods (Just Step)," which was the final single off the set and featured a sample from Esther Phillip's "That's Alright With Me." The sophomore album peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200. It reached #3 on the R&B chart.
