On this day in 1988, LL Cool J released the single "Going Back to Cali" on Def Jam. The hit single was produced and cowritten by Rick Rubin for the soundtrack to the 20th Century Fox motion picture Less Than Zero. "Going Back to Cali" also appeared on LL's third album Walking With a Panther, released on Def Jam in 1989. The single peaked at #31 on the Billboard 200. It reached #12 on the R&B chart. It was certified gold by the RIAA.
