On this day in 2015, Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco released his fifth studio album Tetsuo & Youth on his own label 1st & 15th Entertainment. The album featured production mainly from DJ Dahi, S1, and VohnBeatz. Guest artists featured on the set included Nikki Jean, Guy Sebastian, Ayesha Jaco, Terrace Martin, Troi Martin, Billy Blue, Buk, Trouble, Trae Tha Truth, Fam Lay, Glasses Malone, Crystal Torres, Charlie Wilson, and Ab-Soul. Tetsuo & Youth featured the lone single "Deliver." Lupe also released the promotional single "Mission" which was a tribute to cancer survivors. The album debuted at #14 on the Billboard 200. Several publications listed the album as the best rap album for 2015. It was Lupe's final album with Atlantic Records.

The song was recorded after the death of a fan during a fight at a 1988 Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy concert. The shooting death of Scott La Rock, an original member of Boogie Down Productions, and several other shootings in New York's hip-hop community also helped inspire the benefit single. The single was produced by KRS-One, D-Nice of Boogie Down Productions, and Hank Shocklee of the Bomb Squad. Artists featured on the cut included Boogie Down Productions (KRS-One, D-Nice, & Ms. Melodie), Stetsasonic (Delite, Daddy-O, Wise, and Frukwan), Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Doug E.
