On this day in 1992, Da Lench Mob released their debut album Guerillas in tha Mist on East West. The album was produced by Ice Cube and he was featured throughout the album uncredited. It would spawn two singles "Guerillas in tha Mist" and "Freedom Got an A.K." The first would later be featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas while "Freedom Got an A.K." reached #7 on the Rap chart. Guerillas in tha Mist reached #24 on the Billboard 200 and #4 on the R&B chart. It was certified gold in December, 1992. On this day in 1992, Diamond D released his debut album Stunts, Blunts and Hip-Hop on Mercury. The debut release from the Bronx-born producer featured early cameos from Fat Joe and Big L. The album featured coproduction from Q-Tip, the 45 King, Jazzy Jay, and among others. Stunts, Blunts, and Hip-Hop spawned three singles: "Best-Kept Secret," "Sally Got a One Track Mind," and "What U Heard." The album reached #47 on the R&B chart. It was selected as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. On this day in 1992, Showbiz & A.G. released their debut album Runaway Slave on Payday. The innovative debut set from the D.I.T.C. duo was mostly produced by Showbiz, with Diamond D producing two cuts. Guests on the album included fellow D.I.T.C. member Big L, Dres, Diamond D, Lord Fineses, DeShawn, Fat Joe, and Freddie Foxxx. The album spawned two singles: "Bounce ta This," which reached #8 on the Rap chart, and "Fat Pockets," which reached #15 on the same chart. Runaway Slave reached #78 on the R&B chart.

On this day in 1993, De la Soul released their third studio album Buhloone Mindstate on Tommy Boy. This was the group's last record to be produced with Prince Paul. Guests featured on the album included the Japanese rappers Scha Dara Parr and Takagi Kan, Biz Markie, Guru, Dres of Black Sheep, and featured the most was Philadelphia's own Shorty No Mass. The album produced two singles: "Breakadawn," which featured samples from Michael Jackson and Smokey Robinson, and "Ego Trippin' (Part Two)."

On this day in 1994, Craig Mack released his debut album Project: Funk da World on Bad Boy. It was the second album released on the label. The album featured a few singles, including the platinum-selling smash hit "Flava in Ya Ear," which was later remixed with the Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, Rampage, and LL Cool J. The album's second single "Get Down" was certified gold and reached the Top 40. Project: Funk da World reached #21 on the Billboard 200 and #6 on the R&B/Rap charts.

On this day in 2006, Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco dropped his debut album Food & Liquor on Atlantic. The critically acclaimed debut featured production by Kanye West and the Neptunes. Jay Z was credited as executive producer. Food & Liquor reached #8 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Rap chart. Lupe was nominated for four Grammys, including best rap album, and won a Grammy for best urban/alternative performance for the single "Daydreamin'," which featured Jill Scott.

On this day in 2015, Mac Miller released his third studio album GO:OD AM on Warner Bros. It was the Pennsylvania native's major label debut and it dealt with a number of personal topics. The album produced two singles: "100 Grandkids," which reached #100 on the Billboard Hot 100 and "Weekend," which featured Miguel. Other guests on the album included Chief Keef, Ab-Soul, and Lil B. GO:OD AM debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 and sold 73,000 copies its first week. The single "Weekend" was certified platinum March 2018.

The album was written with and produced by Wolf & Epic as well as production and cowriting credits from Audio Two, and The 45 King. The third album from the pioneering rapper featured two hit singles: "Poor Georgie," and "When in Love." The first reached #11 on the R&B chart and the second reached #14 on the same chart. The album featured more prominent R&B and melodic influences and was MC Lyte's most commerically accessible album to date. Act Like You Know reached #102 on the Billboard 200 and #14 on the R&B chart.

On this day in 1979, the Sugarhill Gang released their classic, groundbreaking hit "Rapper's Delight" on Sugar Hill. It is credited as being the first rap song to hit the mainstream and is the first hip-hop record to enter the Billboard's Hot 100 chart and reached #36. "Rapper's Delight" is the first hip-hop record to incorporate sampling and is the basic foundation all hip-hop that followed. The song interpolates "Here Comes That Sound Again" by Love De-Luxe in the beginning of the track and the bass line and main groove from Chic's hit single "Good Times." Both interpolations were played by the funk band Positive Force. Members of Chic were credited as co-songwriters after threatening to file suit.

On this day in 2009, Toronto rapper Drake released his first EP So Far Gone on Universal. The EP was the first album officially released on a label for Drake and was comprised of songs from his So Far Gone mixtape which released earlier in the year. It featured production by Boi-1da, DJ Khalil, 40, and Needlz. So Far Gone debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200. The EP was certified gold. It spawned three top forty singles on the Billboard 100: "Best I Ever Had," which hit #2; "Successful," and "I'm Goin' In," which featured Lil Wayne.

Mama Said... produced five hit singles: "The Boomin' System," "6 Minutes of Pleasure," "To da Break of Dawn," "Around the Way Girl," and the chart-topping, gold-selling hit "Mama Said Knock You Out" which also earned LL a Grammy Award for best rap solo performance. Mama Said Knock You Out was one on LL's most popular albums. It reached #2 on the R&B chart and #16 on the Billboard 200.
