On this day in 1991, Slick Rick released his second studio album The Ruler's Back on Def Jam. The album was produced by Vance Wright, Mr. Lee, and Slick Rick. Russell Simmons was the executive producer. The Ruler's Back spawned the singles "I Shouldn't Have Done It," which reached #50 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and #2 on the Rap chart; "Mistakes of a Woman in Love With Other Men;" and "It's A Boy." The album peaked at #29 on the Billboard 200. It reached #18 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.

On this day in 1997, Puff Daddy released his debut studio album No Way Out on Bad Boy. The debut was produced by Puff Daddy along with the Hitmen. All-star guest artists featured on the album included the Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, Lil' Kim, Ma$e, Jay Z, Foxy Brown, and Ginuwine. No Way Out spawned the five hit singles: "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down," which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap charts; "I'll Be Missing You," which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy; "It's All About the Benjamins," which reached #1 on both the R&B and Rap charts; "Been Around the World," which was certified platinum; and "Victory," which was certified gold. The album reached #1 on both the Billboard 200 and the R&B chart. It was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA.
