On this day in 1991, 2Pac released his debut solo album 2Pacalypse Now on Interscope. The debut set tackled issues such as racism, police brutality, and teen pregnancy. The politically charged, classic album, featured production from Big D the Impossible, Jeremy, Live Squad, Raw Fusion, Pee Wee, Shock G, and the Underground Railroad. The album spawned three classic hit singles; "Brenda's Got a Baby," which featured guest artist Dave Hollister, "Trapped," which featured Shock G of 2Pac's former group Digital Underground, and "If My Homie Calls." Other guests featured on the album were Pogo, Pee Wee, Stretch, and Angelique and Poppi. 2Pacalypse Now peaked at #64 on the Billboard 200. It reached #13 on the R&B charts. The album was certified gold on April 19, 1995.

On this day in 2016, A Tribe Called Quest released their final studio album We Got it From Here...Thank You 4 Your Service on Epic. It was the pioneering rap group's first album since 1998's The Love Movement and their last-ever studio album that featured all original members, as Phife Dawg passed away a few months prior to the release of the set. The comeback album featured production from Q-Tip and Blair Wells. Notable guests featured on the album were Andre' 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Anderson. Paak, Elton John, and Jack White, as well as longtime collaborators Consequence and Busta Rhymes. We Got It from Here...Thank You 4 Your Service spawned a couple singles. "Dis Generation," and the politically charged hit "We the People...," which peaked at #23 on the Rap chart. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. It was their second album to top the chart. The final set was certified gold.

Too Hard to Swallow contained cuts from the group's succesful EP, The Southern Way, which was released earlier in the year. It produced five bona fide classic joints: "C.R.E.A.M.," "Protect Ya Neck," "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nothing ta Fuck Wit," "Can It All Be So Simple," and "Method Man."
