The album featured production from Damon Dash, Teddy Riley, DJ Premier, Buckwild, the Hitmen, and Poke and Tone. Notable featured guest performances on the album were from BLACKstreet, Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown, Babyface, Puff Daddy, Kelly Price, Too $hort, and Sauce Money. The album spawned a handful of singles, including, "Who You Wit," which was featured on the soundtrack for the film Sprung; "(Always Be My) Sunshine," "The City is Mine," and "Wishing on a Star," all of which reached the top twenty on the Rap chart. In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200. It was certified platinum.

On this day in 1987, Kool Moe Dee released his second album How Ya Like Me Now on Jive. The album was produced by Teddy Riley, Bryan "Chuck" New, LaVaba Mallison, Pete Q. Harris, and Kool Moe Dee. The set featured samples from James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, and Cameo. Kool Moe Dee's longstanding feud with LL Cool J began with the title track and was evident on the album cover which featured a jeep driving over a replica of LL's signature red Kangol hat. The album spawned two singles, including the title track "How Ya Like Me Now," and "Wild Wild West," which reached #4 on the R&B chart and crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100. "Wild Wild West" would top the charts again in 1999 when Will Smith covered the song. How Ya Like Me Now was certified platinum.

The album spawned three hits: "Teenage Love," "Hey Young World," and "Children's Story." The latter's beat would be sampled in Montell Jordan's classic R&B smash "This Is How We Do It." The album also featured cult classic cuts like "Treat Her Like A Prostitute," "Indian Girl (An Adult Story)," "Mona Lisa," and "The Ruler's Back." The Great Adventures of Slick Rick peaked at #31 on the Billboard 200. It reached #1 on the R&B chart. It was certified platinum. The album has been sampled over a hundred times in as many songs.
