On this day in 2010, Waka Flocka Flame released his debut studio album Flockaveli on 1017 Brick Squad. The album was mainly produced by Lex Luger with some production from Drumma Boy, Southside, and others. Flockaveli spawned four hit singles: "Hard in da Paint," "Grove St. Party," "Oh Let's Do It," and the smash hit "No Hands," which featured Roscoe Dash and Wale and reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200.

On this day in 1988, the Ultramagnetic MC's released their debut studio album Critical Beatdown on Next Plateau. The album was primarily produced by crew member Ced-Gee and featured a blend of electronic music and extensive funk samples. Critical Beatdown achieved modest success at its release and reached #57 on the R&B chart. It is considered an influential example of New York rap from hip-hop's "golden era."

Eyes on This spawned three singles: "Cha Cha Cha," which reached #1 on the charts, "Stop, Look, Listen," and the anti-violence themed classic "Cappucino." The album hit #86 on the Billboard 200 and #6 on the R&B chart. It helped establish MC Lyte as one of the top female MCs of that day and all time.

The set spawned three huge hits "Livin' It Up," which featured Case and hit the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, the R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap charts, "Always on Time," and "I'm Real (Murder Remix)," both of which peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Pain is Love debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. It was nominated for a Grammy and was certified multi-platinum.

On this day in 1996, member of the supergroup Golden State Warriors, Ras Kass released his debut album Soul on Ice on Priority. The album was named after the 1968 book by Black Panther Eldridge Cleaver and was a hip-hop manifesto of the black struggle in the 1990s. Soul on Ice was produced by Ras Kass along with with Battlecat, Bird, Voodu, and others. The only guest featured on the album was Coolio on the joint "Drama." The debut spawned a few hit singles, "Miami Life," "Anything Goes," and the title track "Soul on Ice." Although not a single, "Nature of the Threat" gained huge attention because of its controversial political content. Soul on Ice reached #169 on the Billboard 200 and #35 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
