On this day in 1988, the Ultramagnetic MC's released their debut studio album Critical Beatdown on Next Plateau. The album was primarily produced by crew member Ced-Gee and featured a blend of electronic music and extensive funk samples. Critical Beatdown achieved modest success at its release and reached #57 on the R&B chart. It is considered an influential example of New York rap from hip-hop's "golden era."
