On this day in 1998, 2Pac Shakur posthumously released his hit single "Changes" on Interscope/Amaru/Death Row. The song was produced by Deon Evans (Big D The Impossible) and was originally recorded in 1992 while 2Pac was still with Interscope. "Changes" sampled the classic Bruce Hornsby hit "The Way It Is," with the chorus sung by Talent. The single reached #32 on the Billboard Hot 100. It peaked at #12 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It was nominated for a Grammy.

On this day in 1993, Salt-N-Pepa released their fourth album Very Necessary on Next Plateau. The album was self-produced by Salt and by Hurby "Luv Bug" Azor. The R&B group En Vogue were featured guests on the album. Very Necessary spawned a few major hit singles. "Shoop," which reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, "Whatta Man," which featured En Vogue and hit #3 on the chart, and "None of Your Business," which peaked at #32 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy for best rap performance. The fourth album from the all-female rap group spent eighty-nine weeks on the Billboard 200 and peaked at #4 on the chart. It reached #6 on the R&B chart. It was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA.

The group members included Big Syke, Big Kato, Stretch, the Rated R, Macadoshis, 2Pac Shakur, and his older brother Mopreme Shakur. They released their debut on 2Pac's own label, Out Da Gutta. The album was produced by Warren G, Nate Dogg, Easy Mo Bee, Johnny "J," Moe ZMD, and various members of the group. Guests featured on the album included Prince Ital Joe, Spice 1, Dramacydal, Richie Rich, and Biggie Smalls. Jello Biafra's spoken-word performance "Words from Our Sponsors" was sampled for the opening track along with Black Sabbath, hinting at Ice-T's future metal band Body Count.
