On this day in 1990, Native Tongue members A Tribe Called Quest released their debut album People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm on Jive. The debut was self-produced by the Tribe along with the Jungle Brothers. People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm spawned the classic singles "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo," which was the debut single off the album and reached #9 on the Rap chart; "Bonita Applebum," which reached #56 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and peaked at #4 on the Rap chart; and "Can I Kick It?," which reached #8 on the Rap chart. The album reached #91 on the Billboard 200. It was certified gold by the RIAA.

On this day in 1992, Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg released the single "Deep Cover" on Epic. The song was Dr. Dre's first solo release and Snoop's first appearance on a recording. It was the theme for the New Line Cinema motion picture of the same name. It was produced by Dr. Dre. "Deep Cover" reached #4 on the Rap chart. The song was later featured in the 2004 Rockstar video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
