On this day in 1992, the Virginia State University duo Das EFX released their debut album Dead Serious on East West. The debut was executively produced by EPMD and featured production from Das EFX, Chris Charity, and Derek Lynch. Dead Serious spawned the singles "Straight Out the Sewer," which peaked at #3 on the Rap chart; "Mic Checka," which reached #1 on the Rap chart; and "They Want EFX," which peaked at #25 on the BillboardHot 100 and reached #1 on the Rap chart. The album reached #16 on the Billboard 200. It hit #1 on the R&B chart. It was certified platinum by the RIAA in 1993.
