On this day in 1999, Memphis Bleek released his debut solo album Coming of Age on Roc-A-Fella. The album was titled after a Jay Z track that featured Bleek. The debut release featured production by Swizz Beatz, Irv Gotti, Buckwild, and others. Coming of Age peaked at #7 on the Billboard 200. The album went gold and spawned a few hit singles. The hit "Memphis Bleek Is..." reached #93 on the R&B chart. Other singles on the album included "What You Think of That," which featured Jay Z, and "Murda 4 Life" that featured Ja Rule. Beanie Siegel, Noreaga, and Da Ranjahs also made guest appearances on the album. On this day in 1988, Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock released their debut album It Takes Two on Profile. The platinum-selling album included some of the most famous hip-hop tracks to date. The album made great use of popular samples. The title track borrowed heavily from the Lyn Collins single "Think (About It)," and the smash hit "Joy and Pain" sampled the classic Frankie Beverly & Maze song of the same name. The song "Get on the Dance Floor" sampled "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" by the Jacksons. It Takes Two spent fifty-eight weeks on the R&B chart. It would peak at #4 on that chart. Also on this day... 1994 - Ill Al Skratch released their debut album Creep wit' Me on Mercury Records. 2010 - Chuck D of Public Enemy released his second solo album Don't Rhyme for the Sake of Riddlin'.

The groundwork was laid for Dr. Dre and The Chronic on this day in 1989 when The D.O.C. released his debut album, No One Can Do It Better on Atlantic. After working with N.W.A. on their album, D.O.C. enlisted the help of Dr. Dre and Eazy E to produce this classic album.
No One Can Do It Better stayed at #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart for two weeks and reached #20 on the Billboard 200. The album produced four singles: "The D.O.C. & the Doctor," "It's Funky Enough," "The Formula," and "Mind Blowin." There were guest appearances by N.W.A., MC Ren, and Michel'le.
