On this day in 1988, Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock released their debut album It Takes Two on Profile. The platinum-selling album included some of the most famous hip-hop tracks to date. The album made great use of popular samples. The title track borrowed heavily from the Lyn Collins single "Think (About It)," and the smash hit "Joy and Pain" sampled the classic Frankie Beverly & Maze song of the same name. The song "Get on the Dance Floor" sampled "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" by the Jacksons. It Takes Two spent fifty-eight weeks on the R&B chart. It would peak at #4 on that chart. Also on this day... 1994 - Ill Al Skratch released their debut album Creep wit' Me on Mercury Records. 2010 - Chuck D of Public Enemy released his second solo album Don't Rhyme for the Sake of Riddlin'.
