On this day in Hip-Hop history, Nas released his eighth studio album Hip Hop Is Dead.

On this day in 2006, Nas released his eighth studio album Hip Hop Is Dead on Def Jam.  It was his first released on the label.  The album featured production from Kanye West, will.i.am, Scott Storch, Dr. Dre, L.E.S., and Chris Webber, among others.  Guest artists featured on the album included Chrisette Michele, will.i.am, The Game, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, and Kanye West.

Hip Hop Is Dead was nominated for a Grammy Award and produced a number of hit singles including "Can't Forget About You," and the controversial title track "Hip Hop Is Dead," both reached the forties on the Billboard Hot 100.  The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200.  It was certified platinum by the RIAA.
