On this day in hip-hop, 1990, Boogie Down Productions released their fourth album Edutainment.
On July 17, 1990, BDP dropped their fourth album, Edutainment, on Jive Records. The album heavily featured the leader of Boogie Down, KRS-One. Many critics agreed this was KRS-One's finest lyrical performance to date, touching on many social issues in the black community. KRS produced the album along with D-Nice and Pal Joey.
The album featured skits for interludes known as "exhibits" in between songs. Civil Rights activist Kwame Ture was in most skits. Edutainment had a couple hits, including "Love's Gonna Get'cha (Material Love)." The album reached #9 on the R&B chart and #32 on the Billboard 200. Edutainment was certified Gold on October 10, 1990 and to this date has sold over 700,00 copies. Also on this day... 2012 - Masta Ace released his eighth album MA_DOOM: Son of Yvonne on M3. 2015 - Future released his third album DS2 on Epic.
