On this day in 1993, Digable Planets released their debut album Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) on Elektra. The album was produced by group member Butterfly and was soaked in strong jazz and funk samples. Reachin' spawned the smash hit "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)," which peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Rap chart. The album reached #15 on the Billboard 200 and earned the group a Grammy for best new duo or group. It was certified gold by the RIAA.
