On this day in 1995, 2Pac released the single "California Love" on Death Row. The song was released as 2Pac's comeback single after his release from prison. It was his first single released as an artist as a member of Death Row.
"California Love" was produced by Dr. Dre. The single reached and spent two weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It reached #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and the Rap chart. It was nominated for a posthumous Grammy Award in 1997. It has sold over two million copies and is certified multi-platinum.

On this day in 2014, the Wu-Tang Clan released their sixth album A Better Tomorrow on Warner Bros. It was the legendary rap group's first studio release in seven years. The album was mostly produced by RZA but featured production from Rick Rubin and others. A Better Tomorrow included the singles "Ruckus in B Minor," "Keep Watch," and "Ron O'Neal." The album debuted at #29 on the Billboard 200. It peaked at #3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

On this day in 1986, Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force released Planet Rock: The Album on Tommy Boy. It is a collection of previous released singles from between 1981 and 1986. The album featured production from Afrika Bambaataa, Arthur Baker, Keith LeBlanc, Fats Comet, Skip McDonald, and others. The album's title track, "Planet Rock," peaked at #4 on the Soul charts. It reached #48 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is one of the pioneering songs of Hip-Hop and is listed at #240 on Rolling Stones' 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list.
