On this day in Hip-Hop history, the motion picture Wild Style was released in theaters.
On this day in 1983, the first hip-hop film Wild Style opened in US theaters. The movie was written and directed by Charlie Ahearn and was a First Run Features' film. It starred graffiti artist Lee Quinones as the fictional graffiti artist Zoro and showcased New York's hip-hop culture. Wild Style included appearances by some of the pioneers of hip-hop like Grandmaster Flash, Fab Five Freddy, Chief Rocker Busy Bee, the Cold Crush Brothers, Grandmixer D.ST., Rammellzee, Grandmaster Caz, Fantastic Freaks, DJ Grand Wizard Theodore, the Rock Steady Crew, and Double Trouble.
