On this day in 1989, Tone Loc released the single "Wild Thing" on Delicious Vinyl. The single was produced by Matt Dike and featured the hook sampled from Van Halen's "Jamie's Cryin'." It is the lead single off of Tone Locos debut album Loc-ed After Dark. "Wild Thing" peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It reached #2 on the Rap chart and #3 on the R&B chart. It sold more than two million copies and was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA.

I can't believe the hip-hop practitioners have already been successful in dominating the poetry scene. It's funny how their arm movements haven't changed. They still look like they are performing a hip hop song number even if they have only been doing straight poetry with not even slight background music involved. They continue to win contests. Maybe it's because their words can be really passionate. Honestly, mostly it's just because of their good looks. I don't know and I don't want to be very quick to judge.
