On this day in 2015, Universal Picture's Straight Outta Compton was released in US theaters. The film was directed by F. Gary Gray and coproduced by Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. The movie was filmed in Compton and traced the rise of hip-hop group N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton starred Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, and O'Shea Jackson Jr., Ice Cube's son, as Ice Cube. The film grossed more than $200 million at the box office and was nominated for an Academy Award for best original screenplay.
