On this day in 1989, British-American emcee Slick Rick released the single "Children's Story" on Def Jam. The song was self-produced by Ricky Walters and was the second single off his debut studio album The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. "Children's Story" reached #5 on the R&B chart and peaked at #2 on the Rap chart. It has been covered and re-interpreted by many artists which includes Eminem, The Game, Talib Kweli and Mos Def, Everlast, and Tricky, and others. The single is one of the most sampled hip-hop songs of all time.
