On this day in 1995, Jamaican rapper Shaggy released his third studio album, Boombastic, on Virgin. Already a huge talent in Europe, this album would have major success in the US. It spawned a number of hit singles, including the lead track "In the Summertime," which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum. The title track would peak at #3 on the same chart and spent one week at #1 on the US R&B chart.
Boombastic reached the top forty of the Billboard 200. The album also won a Grammy in 1996 for best reggae album.
