On this day in 1995, Jamaican rapper Shaggy released his third studio album, Boombastic, on Virgin. Already a huge talent in Europe, this album would have major success in the US. It spawned a number of hit singles, including the lead track "In the Summertime," which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum. The title track would peak at #3 on the same chart and spent one week at #1 on the US R&B chart.
Boombastic reached the top forty of the Billboard 200. The album also won a Grammy in 1996 for best reggae album. Also on this day... 1997- Timbaland and Magoo released the single "Up Jumps da Boogie" on Atlantic 2006- Pimp C released his sophomore album Pimpalation on Rap-A-Lot.
