On this day in 1987, Eric B. & Rakim released their debut album Paid In Full. The first single off the album, "Eric B. Is President", was recorded in Marley Marl's home studio. The rest of the album would be recorded at the Power Play Studios in, NY.
Paid In Full peaked at #58 on the Billboard 200. The album spawned 5 singles, including the aforementioned "Eric B. Is President". By 1995 the album had sold over a million copies and was certified platinum. Rolling Stones magazine would rank Paid In Full #228 on their 2003, 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time list. It is considered one the benchmark albums of the golden age of hip-hop, influencing artists and producers to shape the future of hip-hop production.
