On this day in hip-hop history, MC Shy-D released Got To Be Tough. On this day in 1987, MC Shy-D released his debut studio album Got to Be Tough on Luke Skyywalker. Born in the Bronx and the cousin of Afrika Bambaataa, MC Shy-D relocated to Atlanta and took the New York hip-hop style with him. The debut album would be a landmark for Atlanta rap and was a hit on the independent charts. Got to Be Tough peaked at #197 on the Billboard 200 and #41 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
