On this day in 1985, LL Cool J released his debut album and the first album ever on Def Jam, Radio. The album was "reduced by Rick Rubin" and featured some production from DJ Jazzy Jay. The debut set spawned five instant hip-hop classics including "I Need a Beat," "Dear Yvette," "You'll Rock," "I Can Give You More," and "I Can't Live Without My Radio," which was also perfomed by LL in the film Krush Groove. Radio peaked at #46 on the Billboard 200. It reached #6 on the R&B chart. It was certified platinum.
