On this day in 1990, LL Cool J released his fourth album Mama Said Knock You Out on Def Jam. The album was produced by Marly Marl and was recorded at his home studio where LL lived during the process. It was certified multi-platinum. Mama Said... produced five hit singles: "The Boomin' System," "6 Minutes of Pleasure," "To da Break of Dawn," "Around the Way Girl," and the chart-topping, gold-selling hit "Mama Said Knock You Out" which also earned LL a Grammy Award for best rap solo performance. Mama Said Knock You Out was one on LL's most popular albums. It reached #2 on the R&B chart and #16 on the Billboard 200.
