On this day in 2015, Kendrick Lamar released his third studio album To Pimp a Butterfly on Top Dawg/Aftermath/Interscope. The album featured production from many heavy hitter producers including Boi-1da, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Pharrell Williams and more with Top Dawg and Dr. Dre as executive producers. Guest artists featured on the set included George Clinton, Thundercat, Bilal, Anna Wise, James Fauntleroy, Ron Isley, Rapsody, and Snoop Dogg. To Pimp A Butterfly was ranked as the best album of 2015 by many publications and included the singles "i," which reached #39 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won two Grammy awards; "The Blacker the Berry," which peaked at #66 on the Billboard Hot 100; "King Kunta," which reached #58 on the Hot 100 and was certified platinum by the RIAA; "Alright," which reached #81 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for four Grammy awards, winning two; and "These Walls," which peaked at #94 on the Hot 100 and won a Grammy. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. It was certified platinum by the RIAA.
