On this day in 2001, Jay Dee aka J Dilla released his debut studio album Welcome 2 Detroit on BBE. Dilla produced the entire album except for the track "The Clapper," which was co-produced by Karriem Riggins. The album featured local guest artists like Dwele, Blu, Elzhi, Frank-N-Dank, Beej, Hodge Podge and Lacks, and Phat Kat. Welcome 2 Detroit spawned the single "Pause." An instrumental version of the album would be released in August, 2005.
