On this day in Hip-Hop history, Nas released "It Was Written".
In 1996, Nas dropped his second studio album, "It Was Written" on Columbia. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and remained there for four consecutive weeks, selling over two million copies in the first three months. It has since become one of the bestselling album's from Nas's career.
The multi-platinum album lead to two singles "Street Dreams" and "If I Ruled the World", which hit #52 on the Billboard Hot 100. "It Was Written" features samples from Al Green, Sting, Sam Cooke, and many others.
