On this day in 1991, Ice Cube released his second solo album Death Certificate on Priority. The album was produced by Sir Jinx. It is, at large, considered a masterpiece. The album was thematic and touched on an array of subjects like racism, police brutality, sexual promiscuity and diseases, and gang violence. Dr. Khalid Muhammad, then the national representative for the Nation of Islam, appeared as a guest on several tracks. Death Certificate's story was told on two sides. Side one was "The Death Side" and side two was "The Life Side." The sequential arrangement of the final three tracks on "The Death Side" is considered some of the best sequencing in recorded music history. The album spawned a couple hit singles "True to the Game" and "Steady Mobbin'," which peaked at #1 on the charts. Death Certificate debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the R&B chart. It was certified platinum within two months.
