On this day in Hip-Hop history, Guru released Jazzmatazz Vol. 1.
On this day in 1993, Guru released his debut solo studio album Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 on Chrysalis Records. The album is one of the first to combine a live jazz band with hip hop and was self-produced by Guru and executive produced by Keith Elam. The band was made up of members Lonnie Liston Smith, Branford Marsalis, Ronny Jordan, Donald Byrd, and Roy Ayers. Other artists to appear as guests included Carleen Anderson, N'Dea Davenport, Dee C Lee, and MC Solaar. Jazzmatazz Vol. 1 spawned the single "Trust Me," which reached #50 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The album peaked at #91 on the Billboard 200. It reached #24 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
