On this day in Hip-Hop history, Gang Starr released their fourth album Hard to Earn.

On this day in 1994, Gang Starr released their fourth album Hard to Earn on Chrysalis.  The album was self-produced by the group.  Guest artists featured on the set included Nice & Smooth, Nas, MC Eiht, Jeru the Damaja, Group Home, and Big Shug.

Hard to Earn spawned the classic singles "Code of the Streets," which reached #33 on the Rap chart; "Mass Appeal," which reached #67 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at #10 on the Rap chart; and "DWYCK," which peaked at #25 on the Rap chart.  The album reached #25 on the Billboard 200.  It peaked at #2 on the R&B chart.

The major motion picture New Jack City was released in US theaters.

American rapper from Detroit, Michigan and member of the hip-hop group Slum Village.  Baatin passed away on July 31, 2009.
