On this day in Hip-Hop history, Big Pun released his debut album Capital Punishment.

On this day in 1998, Big Pun released his debut album Capital Punishment on Terror Squad.  The album featured production from RZA, Showbiz, dead prez, Rockwilder, Frank Nitty, L.E.S., and Dr. Dre, and many more.  Guest artists featured on the set included Busta Rhymes, Funkmaster Flex, Fat Joe, Wyclef, and Black Thought, and others.

Capital Punishment spawned the singles "I'm Not a Player," which peaked at #57 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and was certified platinum by the RIAA; "Still Not a Player," which reached #24 on the Billboard Hot 100; and "You Came Up," which peaked at #49 on the R&B chart.  The album reached #5 on the Billboard 200.  It was #1 on the R&B chart.  The debut set was nominated for a Grammy and was certified platinum by the RIAA.
