On this day in 1989, the Beastie Boys released their sophomore album Paul's Boutique on Capitol. The album was produced by the Dust Brothers, Mario Caldato Jr., and the Beasties. The sophomore set contained over a hundred samples and its unique arrangement by the Dust Brothers made it groundbreaking and innovative. Paul's Boutique spawned the hit singles "Shadrach," and "Hey Ladies," which reached #36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and landed a spot on the Rock, Rap, and Dance charts, becoming the first single in history to reach the Top 20 in both the Rap and Rock charts. The album peaked at #14 on the Billboard 200. It reached #24 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA in 1999.
