On this day in 1992, the Beastie Boys released their third studio album Check Your Head on Capitol Records. The album was produced by the boys and Mario Caldato, Jr. The third set used less samples and featured instrumental contributions from the group with Ad-Rock on lead guitar, MCA on bass guitar, and Mike D on drums.
Check Your Head spawned the singles "Pass the Mic," which was the lead single off the set; "So What'cha Want," which reached #93 on the Billboard Hot 100; "Jimmy James," Gratitude," and "Professor Booty." The album reached #10 on the Billboard 200. It peaked at #37 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The album was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA, July, 1998.
