On this day in 1988, Boogie Down Productions released their sophomore album By All Means Necessary on Jive.  It was BDP's first album after the tragic murder of the group's cofounder Scott La Rock the previous year.  All songs on the set were written, produced, and performed by KRS-One.

By All Means Necessary spawned the hit singles "Stop the Violence," which peaked at #76 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart; and "My Philosophy."  The album reached #75 on the Billboard 200.  It peaked at #18 on the R&B chart.  It was certified gold by the RIAA.
