On this day in 1982, Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force released the groundbreaking hit single "Planet Rock" on Tommy Boy. The single was produced by Arthur Baker and is credited as the first hip-hop record to utilize the Roland TR-808. It reached #48 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on the R&B chart.
