On this day in 1989, LL Cool J released his third album Walking with a Panther on Def Jam. The album was produced by LL along with the Bomb Squad, Rick Rubin, DJ Cut Creator, and Dwayne Simon, a former member of the L.A. Posse production team, and due to contractual disputes, did not work on the album. Walking with a Panther spawned the huge hits: "Going Back to Cali," which reached #31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #12 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and was certified gold by the RIAA; "I'm That Type of Guy," which peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Rap chart; "Big Ole Butt," which peaked at #13 on the Rap chart; "One Shot at Love," which reached #68 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart; and "Jingling Baby," which was the final single released off the album and peaked at #32 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The album reached #6 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the R&B chart. It was certified platinum by the RIAA.
