On this day in 2001, the St. Lunatics released their debut studio album Free City on Universal. The highly anticipated debut album was produced by Jay E, Wally, and City Spud. Guest artists featured on the set included Penelope, Cardan and Brian McKnight. Free City spawned the hits "Groovin' Tonight," and "Midwest Swing," which reached #88 on the BillboardHot 100 and #41 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200. It reached #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Their debut sold 196,000 copies its first week and was certified platinum by the RIAA a month later.
