On this day in 1997, Minneapolis hip-hop group, Atmosphere, released their debut album Overcast! on Rhymesayers. The album was produced by group member, Ant. Guest artists featured on the set included Beyond. Overcast! spawned the single "Scapegoat," which was a college radio hit and sparked national attention for the group. The album would help influence a generation of Twin City rappers.

On this day in 1998, Snoop Dogg released his third studio album Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told on No Limit Records. It was his first album on the new label. The album was produced by Beats By the Pound, DJ Pooh, DJ Darryl, Meech Wells, and Soopafly. Guest artists featured on the set included Master P, Mystikal, Charlie Wilson, Mia X, Fiend, Jon B, C-Murder, Silkk the Shocker and others. Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Sold spawned the singles: "Still a G Thang," which reached #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the Rap chart; "Woof," which reached #62 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the Rap chart; and "Slow Down," which is listed as "Can't Take the Heat" on some editions. The album reached #1 on the both the Billboard 200 and the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA.

On this day in 1995, Chef Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan released his debut solo album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... on Loud. The album was produced by RZA and was presented like a film and starred Raekwon with fellow Wu member Ghostface Killah acting as costar. The set featured several samples from John Woo's 1989 film The Killer. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... spawned the singles "Ice Cream," which reached #37 on the Billboard Hot 100; "Criminology," which peaked at #43 on the Billboard Hot 100; "Heaven & Hell," which reached #21 on the Rap chart; and "Rainy Dayz," which was the final released single off the album. The third solo released by a Wu member reached #4 on the Billboard 200. It was certified platinum by the RIAA.
