The track was produced by Dominic Wynn Woods, aka Sage the Gemini and was featured on the emcee's debut album Remember Me. "Gas Pedal" featured Iamsul as a guest artist and later featured Justin Bieber on the remix. The single peaked at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached #6 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA.

The debut also contained the cult singles "The Magnificent Jazzy Jeff," and "A Touch of Jazz," both of which featured the turntable mastery of Jazzy Jeff.
